WEST VALLEY WOMEN
CELEBRATES 5 YEARS
Congratulations and thank you to the members, guests, sponsors and
partners of West Valley Women for helping us reach a significant
milestone. On July 13, West Valley Women celebrated its 5th
Anniversary at our luncheon sponsored by SKYE Fine Dining with
publications provided by You Are Here Northwest Valley and favors
provided by Scottsdale Healthcare. Attendees were treated to a
live cooking demonstration taught by Executive Chef Scott Tompkins
followed by a champagne toast. We appreciate and thank Mayor
Barrett for proclaiming Tuesday, July 13 as West Valley Women Day.
A very big thank you to the Daily News-Sun for covering our event.

While
reflecting on the past five years, I revisited my childhood.
Specifically, the summer I celebrated my 5th birthday. Being 5 and
feeling all grown up, I looked forward to starting big girl
school, “kindergarten.” A few days before my baby brother was
born, my dad took my big brother and I to the community swimming
pool. I tested new waters by venturing a little closer to the deep
end and very quickly returned to reality when a stranger helped me
back to the shallow end. While watching mom change my baby
brother’s diaper, I starred in disbelief at his aim. It almost
reached the ceiling, also my first memory of how girls are
different than boys. Strong and independent and as the new adult
in the household, I understood the “Power of 5.” I have many
memories from that summer going forward but very few from my early
years prior. .
Ahh, the Power of Five. Congratulations, West Valley Women. To the
next five years ~ lisa e platt.
