Members of Leadership West, Class XVIII, will present their group projects to community members and stakeholders at “Synthesis Day,” a free event on Thursday, June 7thfrom 7:30 a.m. to noon, at Avondale City Hall in the Council Chambers, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, in Avondale.  Synthesis Day is an annual event at which graduating Leadership West members present the community projects which they have developed and completed during their year-long Leadership West class experience.  Synthesis day projects are self-selected for the purpose of meeting a need in the community, and demonstrating teamwork and leadership.  Over the years, several Leadership West Synthesis Day projects have been recognized with “Best of the West” awards.

This year’s projects include:

  • “Nab the Invader”  An education and awareness program focusing on the dangers of quagga mussels at Lake Pleasant in Peoria
  • Special Olympics 2012 Golf National Invitational Tournament, hosted by the Wigwam, September 6-9, 2012 (with Gala for athletes sponsored by Cancer Treatment Centers of America)
  • “Chamber for Good,” a partnership with The Surprise Regional Chamber of Commerce designed to give local residents a web-based way to contribute to local charities
  • “Hands to Home,” a 24/7 real-time, communication system using social media, which creates a communication link between West Valley homeless youth and the services offered by the Homeless Youth Connection

The presentations will be judged by a panel of prominent West Valley leaders, and be given cash awards to be used to support the projects.  The winning project will be displayed on a trophy which will be prominently featured at Leadership West events throughout the next year.
